ABOUT ME
Committed to working alongside you
My name is Elizabeth Aguilar-Godinez, LMFT. I am a bilingual, Spanish speaking Clinician located in California. I am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR which focuses on processing trauma. My approach is to share my knowledge with my clients and help them find the light within so that they can work through difficult times in their lives.

As a daughter of immigrants and second-generation Mexican-American, I understand how our cultura, upbringing, traditions, and family expectations can shape who we are. For many of us, especially those who are first-generation born in the U.S. or who grew up between cultures, balancing between upholding our roots while developing our own cultural identities can feel like a challenging compromise.

It can be a challenge as we branch off and develop our own identities, beliefs, and worldview, which may often clash with those of our familia. We want to honor the sacrifices our parents, grandparents and ancestors have made and cherish the rich and beautiful traditions of our culture. At the same time, we also deal with challenging certain norms (such as machismo, colorismo, family secrets) that no longer serve us or support our well-being. These experiences can present themselves as heightened anxiety, emotional distress, hoarding possessions, or other trauma-related symptoms.

My approach centers on supporting individuals and families as they navigate the balance between tradition and personal identity through life’s ongoing changes. Let’s work together to build understanding and practical tools that honor where you come from while moving forward in a way that honors who you are as an individual.
